Delores, I was looking around on my computer tonight & didn't realize I'd not notified anyone on the PPS. I had polio in October, 1950 - the only one in my family of 8 children [my two other siblings were married at the time]. I'm 62 yrs old & began having post-polio symptoms several years ago. I'm interested in learning more about the alkaline water you spoke of. Would you please send any information you have to my email: ...I would appreciate learning how the water might help me. I have back problems along w/the PPS and arthritis in my hands. Thank you. June Muse - Texas

I went to my chiropractor and discovered I have grown over an inch in a year. The doctor told me I must be rehydrating the discs in my spine. As we age the spinal discs lose hydration more rapidly. Another great benefit from the alkaline water: I had GERD and was on Prilosec every day. I got off the medication after about 2 to 3 weeks of the alkaline water. I drink over a gallon of water per day. Sometimes I make it to two gallons. My body seems to crave it. If anyone wants information about the alkaline water you may email me at doloressieg(at)

I began drinking alkaline water in October of 2008. My health, strength and endurance were diminishing. A friend told me about the alkaline water and I researched extensively and I purchased a water ionizer and started drinking fresh alkaline water from my tap every day. My doctor had put me on disability and I was afraid I would soon be back in my wheel chair. But, slowly I began to regain strength and over about 6 months I was walking without assistance and only use a cane occasionally. My arthritic knuckles are diminishing in size and the pain is gone. I have not made any other changes in my life style. Do you know of anything else I can do to help improve my quality of life?
Thanks Dolores

Hi Dolores,
We are about to start an "Ask the Expert" column on this site featuring answers from Dr. Susan Perlman related to PPS. I understand you have had some beneficial results with alkaline water. Would you like to pose a question to Dr. Perlman to see if she would provide some insight on this topic? I encourage you to do so by submitting your question at the forum topic titled "Ask the Expert"

Hi Dolores,

I think it can get a lot colder where you are compared to UK, but I have to wear skirts always which can be a bit much in our climate this time of year - thermals would be really lovely I'm sure!!

I have a stool in the kitchen, it helps a lot. I find the supermarket very tiring and try to get round as quick as I can. Making me jealous with the banana pie.

Hi Delores,
Nice to know we are not out there all alone.
I started my carrier in 1953.
If we all keep up the fight someday PPS will be recognized and understood at last.

Hi Dee, Glad you found your way to poliotoday, it is a great site for those with PPS to fianally be able to gather together world wide. Gladys seems to have accomplished in a few short months what we had been working hears to achieve thanks to Salk setting up this site. Come join IPPSO if you would like I have us listed as a group on here. Hugs, Shari
