Please describe how polio has changed your life.
Too much to write.
I "completely recovered from my original polio and lead a full and busy life until about 1991 when after having my second child at 39, I began to get much weaker. Within 2 years I had to use a wheelchair to go more than 50 or 60 meters. I have had to quit practicing family medicine because of fatigue and inability to concentrate and remember. Ten years later, I finally figured out I had Chronic Alveolar hypo-ventilation and wasn't breathing properly at night. VPAP has given me my brain back but I still have too much fatigue to return to work.

Welcome to Polio Today Mavis,
This site in general and the great members in particular has been an invaluable resource in understanding the effects of Polio and reconciling myself to what I can/cannot and should/should not be doing. I do know that any major trauma whether physical or emotional has a major impact to the whole body. I hope you will find it as helpful as it has been for me. Welcome!
I have been trying to get help for my breathing for quite a while; have just about given up trying to explain to specialists here in my state of Australia that polio could possibly have an effect on my breathing. Gladys on this site has been helping, but she lives in the US.
