Please describe how polio has changed your life.
Having had polio at a very young age, 3, I have known nothing else. For me that's when my journey began. Experiencing pain, suffering, rejection, humiliation, ridicule, loneliness helped me gain so much wisdom, once over the anger, then came forgiveness, patience, empathy and kindness for others. Life is all about what you make it. I wouldn't trade my journey with anyone else.

The Art of Lora Duguay

"The Pure Pleasure is my relationship with the canvas."

A bit about me: A polio survivor since the young age of 3, after a 26 year career as a medical language specialist, I began oil painting as a hobby, emerging into a full time career when postpolio syndrome affected my life. Artistic creativity has been focused on the cultural beauty of indigenous tribes and nature. Paintings depict the beauty and romanticism of nomadic people living life from the earth, making my art unique, while the animals depict either the gentleness or ferocity associated with their nature. I am driven by the desire to create that which flows forth from a higher power. All images and text copyright © 2010, Lora Duguay, All Rights Reserved.

Hi Lora,

I appreciate you inviting me to be your friend. I don't get on the computer often but try to make my time there relevant. I enjoyed your pictures and feel you are truly a gifted painter. I had polio at 3 also and started having PPS complications about 10 years ago. I look at every day as a gift and go to sleep every night with a smile on my face. (Even if I'm in pain)

Take care,

Yvonne

Hello Lora
The Harvest Centre is a great site heaps of information - Dr Bruno must be a very cleaver compassionate man, I would love to be one of his patients but living in Australia not possible. Have you been in a wheelchair all along? I find my body is slowly getting weaker so learning to conserve energy to stay on my feet longer. This is also a great site I love reading members stories I have even submitted a short story myself, maybe I'll be reading your story soon.
God Bless
Ella
