Please describe how polio has changed your life.
My lower body is very weak.My left leg is far weaker and shorter than my right leg.Very hard to get proper exercise as walking is difficult and only makes it worse.I have had several surguries in my youth to correct my left leg deformaty but I have always managed. For some reason I was always drawn to physical labour my whole life as I raised 5 children I am very prone to severe depression the last 10 yrs.I still have upper body strength but doesn't match my lower body.Nerve pain i n both legs keep me at home a lot.I also have diabetes and heart disease.I just wish I could play with my grandkids without so much pain and exhaustion.Ilove to fish and camp but it's too hard to get to the lake shore and get into and out of a boat.I'm afraid I have turned into a bit of a recluse the last few yearsI live in a remote area in B.C so no doctors are informed of this post polio thing. One doctor told me I couldn't have it because " I walked into his office didn't I "I am not overweight because I feel It would make things worse but I got type #2 diabetes anyway. The worst part is the leg cramps and the nerve pain and the frustration of only being 61 and feeling like 80 yrs old
