Please describe how polio has changed your life.
Have had a very busy active life. Worked, traveled, raised 6 children, now have 11 grandchildren. I am known for being " involved" !!! I knew I had had polio at 4 and do remember the Dr. coming to the house. Being in bed in a dark room with a fever and not being able to get up. I was left with a "corkscrew" in my spine. Believe it was Non-Paralytic .I After all the years and having a busy normal life I began to realize something was wrong-MS or something. I kept trying to figure it out. First my gait changed , then began falling, stitches etc. couldn't climb stairs as before. My foggy brain was something else i couldn't understand until I happened to read an article in the AARP magazine by Mia Farrow . Knowing I had had Polio I looked up the website she suggested and it was like walking thru a door of explanation. I kept searching the web and at that time called a few people from a group around Palm Springs and they gave me some Dr.s names and info. I really was on a rollercoaster ride. I really worked on it , rested etc. and then as life gets demanding I overdo. Now I am in a slump again --and know I can't stay in denial!!!Trying to get my head, heart and body all on the same page!! Frustrated, but bound and determined !
