I have a website called Polio Survivors in the 21st Century at https://survivorsofpolio.com. I have had the site for years now but recently lost the original. I'm now spending hours and days rebuilding and it continues to be non-profit, ad-free and dedicated to polio survivors. I have been a member of many online groups but often could not find the time to become more involved.
Please describe how polio has changed your life.
I think it has helped me develope into a strong but compassionant man who enjoys helping others and seeing them succeed in life. Polio has taught me not to take independence and health for granted. I can't come near to describing all the good that having had polio has given me. Everything happens for a reason and I try never to look at the negatives but to try and concentrate on the positives that polio has brought into my life. I'm proud to be a polio survivor.

James , thanks for the welcome . I am like you : time ,we just moved into the home place next door or partially moved , to make room for my Dad & Father-in -Law . My Dad is pretty much wheel chair bound and Father- in - should be but he has a dementing illness and can hardly remember what he can and can't do . They are a handful for me and my wife ; mostly my wife, which they have taken over . May things settle down soon so we can take advantage of the knowledge this site may provide . Hope you are doing well . Dan Merritt

Welcome aboard!!! I love to hear that positive attitude.  Yah got to be and I agree with you, I think having Polio may have alot to do with always trying to help others and trying to stay positive.  Although there are moments-lol.

James, Gladys Swensrud said you needed a referral to a PPS doctor near your area.

Tamar Ference, MD, is Medical Director of the Polio Clinic at University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, Department of Rehabilitation Medicine.

Phone:  305-243-4569  Clinic address:  UMHC-1st Floor Spine Institute, 1475 NW 12th Ave., Miami, FL  33136.

Dr. Ference recently was the keynote at the annual luncheon at the Post Polio Alliance of South Florida.  President of PPASF is Barbara Gratzke, who is very helpful.

Dr. Ference and her team are caring and detailed in their approach.  I am seeing Dr. Ference who is helping me manage my post polio symptoms.

Good luck to you.
