I facilitate the Southeast Michigan Post-Polio Support GRoup and served on the Michigan Polio Network, Inc for 10 years and I volunteer at the post-polio clinic in Warren Michigan
Please describe how polio has changed your life.
I lived a fairly "normal " life after recovery but it was truly a miracle recovery as I was so severely paralyzed frm the neck down. However, Post-Polio Syndrome forced me to quit my job in a high school, evaluate all my discretionary movement to modify my day and conserve what I did havae left. However, I have truly enjoyed my work with other polio survivors and they haves taught me so much. I went to a major health care system here in the Setroit area and asked them to consider starting a Post-polio clinic. They asked me to work with them for two years and the clinic was finallly opened 2001 with much success. I am very proud of accomplishing that as it has helped so many.

Hi Bonnie! Welcome to PT.org! Great accomplishment getting a polio clinic open in MI. Looks like there are about half a dozen polio survivors from Michigan at PolioToday.org. When you have a chance to look over all the Forums, you'll run across one aimed at networking each state. The CA group is doing quite well. It would be fun to get each state in the U.S. completely networked. In case you have an interest, here is the forum: http://poliotoday.ning.com/forum/topics/how-you-can-help-network-polio.
